Mental health experiences of young gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer, and non-binary people in Canada

This article examines data from the Sex Now 2018 and 2019 surveys to highlight the mental health of young sexual- and gender-minority people (SGM) in Canada. Descriptive statistics were used to develop an exploratory analysis of the mental health experiences of gay, bisexual, transgender, Two-Spirit, and queer (GBT2Q) men, and non-binary people in Canada, specifically to understand the experiences of multiply marginalized sub-groups: SGM youth of colour, SGM Indigenous youth, and trans and non-binary youth. By adding to the understanding of mental health needs for these populations across Canada, this article further argues for the development of mental health programs and services for these communities.
